The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of isolated zygomatic arch fractures and to evaluate the functional and radiological outcomes of the treatment. ⋯ Good functional and radiological outcomes were obtained in isolated zygomatic arch fractures. Reduction status was not influenced by either the fracture type or the interval between reduction and injury, and recovery of IID was similarly achieved by excellent, good, and fair reduction.

Comparative StudyResorbable plates for the fixation of mandibular fractures: a prospective study.
The hypothesis for this prospective evaluation is that resorbable plates are equal to the performance of titanium 2-mm plates, regarding healing of the fracture with bone union and restoration of function. To prove this hypothesis, specific end points will be compared with literature norms for titanium 2-mm miniplate rigid fixation. The primary end point variable for this analysis is the union of the fracture and return to normal function. Secondary end point variables included the incidence of complications such as infection, malunion with malocclusion, soft tissue dehiscence, the need for revision surgery, specific technical challenges, operative time, and the learning curve for the surgeon. ⋯ Based on this limited series of patients, the hypothesis formulated for this study was validated.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe effect of a single dose prednisolone with and without diclofenac on pain, trismus, and swelling after removal of mandibular third molars.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of a single intramuscular dose of prednisolone and the prednisolone-diclofenac combination on postoperative pain, trismus, and edema after the removal of third molars. ⋯ It was determined that the combination of a single dose of prednisolone and diclofenac is well-suited to the treatment of postoperative pain, trismus, and swelling after dental surgical procedures and should be used when extensive postoperative swelling of soft tissue is anticipated.
