The aim of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of sonography as a tool to measure the hyomental distance ratio and tongue size in obese patients with a large neck circumference. The hyomental distance ratio is a predictor of difficult laryngoscopy that may result in difficult intubation. ⋯ Sonography allows bedside measurements of the hyomental distance ratio and tongue size in morbidly obese patients. Preoperative assessment of the hyomental distance ratio may predict difficult laryngoscopy resulting in difficult intubation.

For trigger digits, intrasheath sonographically guided first annular (A1) pulley release has shown safety and effectiveness in cadavers. This clinical study describes sonographically guided A1 pulley release results in terms of resolution of symptoms, safety, and functional recovery. ⋯ With adequate anatomic knowledge, technical training, and a basic ultrasound machine, sonographically guided A1 pulley release can be performed safely and successfully, offering an alternative to classic open surgery in the ambulatory setting.

Paralabral cysts of the hip: sonographic evaluation with magnetic resonance arthrographic correlation.
This retrospective study demonstrates the sonographic appearance paralabral cysts of the hip with magnetic resonance (MR) arthrography as the reference standard. Consensus review by 2 musculoskeletal radiologists was used to assess the paralabral cysts and determine their characteristics. ⋯ A labral tear was also noted in all cases on both sonography and MR arthrography. Sonographic assessment for an anterior hip paralabral cyst and labral tear may be of diagnostic benefit.
