Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialHypertension prophylaxis with omega-3 fatty acids in heart transplant recipients.
This study sought to determine whether omega-3 fatty acids act as hypertension prophylaxis in heart transplant recipients and have an impact on vascular reactivity. ⋯ Postoperative daily administration of 4 g of omega-3 fatty acids in heart transplant recipients is effective as hypertension prophylaxis, depending on increases in serum eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acids. Preservation of microvascular endothelial function, demonstrated by a more pronounced response to forearm skin ischemia in the treatment group, may contribute to the hypotensive role of omega-3 fatty acids.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialRandomized trial of a hospital-based exercise training program after acute myocardial infarction: cardiac autonomic effects.
This study sought to determine whether a moderate intensity supervised exercise training program, performed immediately after an uncomplicated acute myocardial infarction, improves recovery in cardiac autonomic function compared with standard advice about activity at home. ⋯ A hospital-based exercise training program increased endurance capacity but did not improve recovery of cardiovascular antonomic function after uncomplicated acute myocardial infarction.

Prognostic value of cardiac troponin T after noncardiac surgery: 6-month follow-up data.
We sought to evaluate the prognostic significance of cardiac troponin T (TnT) serum levels after noncardiac surgery. ⋯ We conclude that an abnormal TnT level in patients undergoing noncardiac surgery may be a useful marker of ischemic disease and a predictor of 6-month prognosis.

Timing of first recurrence of syncope predicts syncopal frequency after a positive tilt table test result.
This study sought to determine whether the time to first recurrence of syncope after a positive isoproteremol-tilt table test result accurately predicts the eventual frequency of syncope. ⋯ The time to the first recurrent spell predicts the frequency of syncopal spells after a positive tilt table test result, and the instantaneous risk of syncope is constant.

Outcomes after bidirectional cavopulmonary shunt in infants less than 6 months old.
We sought to assess the results after bidirectional cavopulmonary shunt (BCPS) in infants < 6 months old and to identify risk factors for poor outcome. ⋯ Outcomes after BCPS in young infants are comparable to those in older infants and children. However, our current preference is to defer this procedure until after 2 months of age.
