Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyPrognostic performance of multiple biomarkers in patients with non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome: analysis from the MERLIN-TIMI 36 trial (Metabolic Efficiency With Ranolazine for Less Ischemia in Non-ST-Elevation Acute Coronary Syndromes-Thrombolysis In Myocardial Infarction 36).
The aim of this study was to assess the prognostic performance of C-terminal provasopressin (copeptin), midregional pro-adrenomedullin (MR-proADM), and midregional pro-atrial natriuretic peptide (MR-proANP) in a large prospective cohort of patients with non-ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS). ⋯ Copeptin, MR-proADM, and MR-proANP are complementary prognostic markers for CV death and HF in patients with NSTE-ACS that perform as well as or better than established and other emerging biomarkers and warrant further investigation of application for therapeutic decision making. Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudySurvival effects of inferior vena cava filter in patients with acute symptomatic venous thromboembolism and a significant bleeding risk.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the survival effects of inferior vena cava filters in patients with venous thromboembolism (VTE) who had a significant bleeding risk. ⋯ In patients presenting with VTE and with a significant bleeding risk, inferior vena cava filter insertion compared with anticoagulant therapy was associated with a lower risk of PE-related death and a higher risk of recurrent VTE. However, study design limitations do not imply a causal relationship between filter insertion and outcome.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study4-year clinical outcomes and predictors of repeat revascularization in patients treated with new-generation drug-eluting stents: a report from the RESOLUTE All-Comers trial (A Randomized Comparison of a Zotarolimus-Eluting Stent With an Everolimus-Eluting Stent for Percutaneous Coronary Intervention).
The aim of the study was to investigate 4-year outcomes and predictors of repeat revascularization in patients treated with the Resolute zotarolimus-eluting stent (R-ZES) (Medtronic, Minneapolis, Minnesota) and XIENCE V everolimus-eluting stent (EES) (Abbott Vascular, Abbott Park, Illinois) in the RESOLUTE (A Randomized Comparison of a Zotarolimus-Eluting Stent With an Everolimus-Eluting Stent for Percutaneous Coronary Intervention) All-Comers trial. ⋯ R-ZES and EES demonstrated similar safety and efficacy throughout 4 years. TLR represented less than one-half of all repeat revascularization procedures. Patient- and lesion-related factors predicting the risk of TLR and any revascularization showed considerable overlap. The goal of this study was to reliably define the incidence and causes of sudden death in college student-athletes. ⋯ In college student-athletes, risk of sudden death due to cardiovascular disease is relatively low, with mortality rates similar to suicide and drug abuse, but less than expected in the general population, although highest in African-American athletes. A substantial minority of confirmed cardiovascular deaths would not likely have been reliably detected by pre-participation screening with 12-lead electrocardiograms.

Randomized Controlled TrialElevated cardiac troponin T is associated with higher mortality and amputation rates in patients with peripheral arterial disease.
The aim of the present study was to evaluate whether elevated cardiac troponin T (cTnT) was independently associated with an increased all-cause mortality or risk of cardiovascular events and amputation among patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD). ⋯ cTnT is frequently elevated in PAD patients and is associated with higher event rates in terms of total mortality and amputation. Even small cTnT elevations predict a markedly increased risk that is independent of an impaired renal function.
