Comparative StudyEarlier arterial switch operation improves outcomes and reduces costs for neonates with transposition of the great arteries.
This study sought to examine the impact of surgical timing on major morbidity and hospital reimbursement for late preterm and term infants with dextrotransposition of the great arteries (d-TGA). ⋯ Delay of neonatal arterial switch operation beyond 3 days is significantly associated with increased morbidity and healthcare costs.

Comparative StudyElevated expression of lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 in calcific aortic valve disease: implications for valve mineralization.
This study sought to document the presence and role of lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2) in calcific aortic valve disease (CAVD). ⋯ Together, these results demonstrated that Lp-PLA2 is highly expressed in CAVD, and it plays a role in the mineralization of valve interstitial cells. Further work is necessary to document whether Lp-PLA2 could be considered as a novel target in CAVD.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyImpaired systolic function by strain imaging in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.
This study sought to determine the frequency and magnitude of impaired systolic deformation in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). ⋯ Strain imaging detects impaired systolic function despite preserved global LVEF in HFpEF that may contribute to the pathophysiology of the HFpEF syndrome. (LCZ696 Compared to Valsartan in Patients With Chronic Heart Failure and Preserved Left-ventricular Ejection Fraction; NCT00887588).
