Comparative StudyEndogenous cardiac stem cell activation by insulin-like growth factor-1/hepatocyte growth factor intracoronary injection fosters survival and regeneration of the infarcted pig heart.
The purpose of this study was to test the ability of insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1/hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) to activate resident endogenous porcine cardiac stem/progenitor cells (epCSCs) and to promote myocardial repair through a clinically applicable intracoronary injection protocol in a pig model of myocardial infarction (MI) relevant to human disease. ⋯ In an animal model of AMI relevant to the human disease, intracoronary administration of IGF-1/HGF is a practical and effective strategy to reduce pathological cardiac remodeling, induce myocardial regeneration, and improve ventricular function.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyResults of low-dose human atrial natriuretic peptide infusion in nondialysis patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting: the NU-HIT (Nihon University working group study of low-dose HANP Infusion Therapy during cardiac surgery) trial for CKD.
The purpose of this comparative study is to prove the efficacy of the human atrial natriuretic peptide (hANP) in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG). ⋯ In the post-operative acute stage, carperitide showed cardiorenal protective effects that prevented post-operative cardiac events and initiation of dialysis. Thus, perioperative infusion of low-dose carperitide may have a significant role in management of patients with renal dysfunction undergoing on-pump CABG. Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyEffect of lenient versus strict rate control on cardiac remodeling in patients with atrial fibrillation data of the RACE II (RAte Control Efficacy in permanent atrial fibrillation II) study.
The aim of this study was to evaluate echocardiographic remodeling in permanent atrial fibrillation (AF) patients treated with either lenient or strict rate control. ⋯ Female sex, not lenient rate control, seemed to be associated with significant adverse cardiac remodeling in patients with permanent AF such as those enrolled in the RACE II study. Comparative StudyDiastolic dysfunction in patients undergoing cardiac surgery: a pathophysiological mechanism underlying the initiation of new-onset post-operative atrial fibrillation.
Our goal was to investigate whether left ventricular (LV) diastolic dysfunction was an important pathophysiological mechanism underlying the initiation of new-onset post-operative atrial fibrillation (POAF). ⋯ LV diastolic dysfunction is a powerful, independent predisposing substrate for the initiation of POAF. Evaluation may be useful during risk stratification of patients undergoing cardiac surgery.
