The scapho-capitate-syndrome has been defined as combined fractures of the scaphoid and capitate with rotation of the proximal fragment of the capitate through 90 or 180 degrees. Most injuries are due to falls from heights or car accidents. Only 26 cases of the scapho-capitate fracture syndrome have been reported since 1937. ⋯ During revision operation we found the head of the capitate still inverted and with marked signs of avascular necrosis and destruction of the lunate cartilage. The avascular fragment was removed and substituted by a graft from the iliac crest. The capitate and lunate were fused.

[Results of follow-up examinations of treatment of Mantero flexor tendon injury in zone 1 and distal zone 2].
We did follow-up examinations of flexor tendon sutures of 161 digits in 151 patients treated according to the Mantero-technique. They revealed that the urgence différée still has its merits today. The results of the sutures in zone 2 correspond to those of zone 1, if only one tendon is affected (zone 2.1), while they are clearly inferior, when two tendons are involved (zone 2.2).

[Microsurgical and histological observations in schwannoma of peripheral nerves].
From 1986 to 1991, eight patients with benign schwannomas (neurilemomas) of peripheral nerves underwent tumor resection. In six of eight cases, microsurgical dissection revealed one or several nerve fascicles "disappearing" in the center of the schwannoma. Therefore, these fascicles had to be removed along with the tumor. ⋯ Interestingly, the resection of fascicles did not create additional neurological deficits. For functional reasons, partial nerve grafts bridging the resulting fascicular defects were considered appropriate in two cases. Tumors of peripheral nerves should be treated by surgeons familiar with microsurgical operative techniques.

Continuous nerve blocks are effective analgesics for physiotherapy following operative procedures on gliding tissues. In the upper extremity, continuous axillary blocks are regularly used, leading to weak muscular action and even paralysis, although active muscle action is wanted. ⋯ After 124 nerve blocks in 60 patients, no complications (infections, nerve irritations or lesions) have been observed. Continuous wrist blocks are indicated for postoperative treatment after tenolysis, joint mobilisation or arthrolysis, open reduction and internal fixation and in certain cases of chronic pain care.

Case Reports[Extensor indicis muscle as a replacement for the abductor pollicis longus muscle. A case report].
The abductor pollicis longus muscle is very important for the function of the thumb. Its deficit hinders grasping bigger objects. Therefore, the reconstruction of the APL tendon is important in chronic injuries. ⋯ If the extensor indicis muscle is placed under moderate tension the gliding amplitudes are identical. The strength of the abductor pollicis longus is 0.092 kp/m. The strength of the extensor indicis is unknown.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)
