[Prevention of Occupational Injuries Related to Hands: Calculation of Subsequent Injury Costs for the Austrian Social Occupational Insurance Institution (AUVA)].
Occupational injuries cause short-term, direct costs as well as long-term follow-up costs over the lifetime of the casualties. Due to shrinking budgets accident insurance companies focus on cost reduction programmes and prevention measures. For this reason, a decision support system for consequential cost calculation of occupational injuries was developed for the main Austrian social occupational insurance institution (AUVA) during three projects. ⋯ Decision support systems such as this cost calculation tool represent necessary instruments to identify risk groups and their injured body parts, causes of accidents, and economic activities, which highly burden the budget of an injury company, and help derive countermeasures to avoid injuries. Target-group specific, suitable prevention measures for hand injuries can reduce accidents in a cost-effective way and lower their consequences.

Case Reports[Technique of Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation for Severe Radiocarpal Arthrosis: Status Quo after 24 Months].
We illustrate the operative technique of autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI) to restore a 4° cartilage damage of the radius surface in the case of a 22-year-old patient, and report on the clinical and radiological results at 6 and 24 months postoperatively.

Review[Interdisciplinary diagnostic and treatment of bone sarcomas of the extremities and trunk].
Contrary to the relatively common benign bone tumours and tumour-like lesions, bone sarcomas are rare malignancies with an incidence of 0.8 new cases per 100 000 persons per year. The most common primary malignant bone tumour is osteosarcoma, followed by chondrosarcoma and Ewing sarcoma. Osteosarcomas and Ewing sarcomas occur predominantly in children, adolescents and young adults, while chondrosarcomas primarily affect older patients. ⋯ An extensive experience in the clinical and imaging features as well as the interdisciplinary treatment of these tumours is necessary for optimal patient care. Without it mistakes are often made, which can have grave consequences on the patients' prognosis and functional outcome. The centralised treatment of these patients in specialised sarcoma centres is therefore recommended.

Sarcomas of the hand and wrist are rare malignancies, which should be referred to high-volume comprehensive cancer centres providing multidisciplinary treatment options. The tumour board should propose patient-oriented oncological pathways as well as sophisticated hand and plastic reconstructive procedures. In Addition, isolated limb perfusion with TNF-alpha and melphalan is likely to lead to preoperative tumour shrinkage allowing for R0 resection in sano. Our clinical results in long-term survivors demonstrate reduced amputation rates and salvage of basic hand function when a risk-adapted treatment rationale is applied.

[Biomechanical testing of a new total wrist arthrodesis plate].
The aim of this study was to evaluate the biomechanical properties of the APTUS wrist fusion plate in comparison to those of the AO wrist fusion plate. ⋯ In comparison to the AO wrist fusion plate the APTUS wrist fusion plate has significantly higher fatigue resistance and tear-out strength. On the basis of 100,000 load cycles until bone healing in the case a wrist arthrodesis, use of the APTUS plate should enable bone healing to occur before the implant fails.
