Electronic medical records (EMRs) implementation in hospitals and emergency departments (EDs) is becoming increasingly more common. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of an EMR system on patient-related factors that correlate to ED workflow efficiency. ⋯ Installation of a hospital-wide EMR system had minimal impact on workflow efficiency parameters in an ED.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the prognostic value of the initial serum lactate level in patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP). ⋯ The initial serum lactate level is independently associated with mortality in hospitalized patients with CAP. However, laboratory variables of PSI or others were not, except CRP and albumin.

The outcome of submersion victims depends on submersion duration and the availability of timely and effective resuscitation. The prognostic implication of vomiting during resuscitation of submersion victims is unclear. The study sought to determine whether vomiting during resuscitation in children treated for unintentional submersion injuries adversely impacts outcome. ⋯ Emesis in pediatric submersion victims is inversely associated with death at 24 hours or poor outcome at hospital discharge. The relationship between emesis and the adequacy of resuscitation of pediatric submersion victims needs to be further studied.
