Observational Study
Prognosis at 6 and 12months after self-attempted hanging.
Patients surviving a self-attempted hanging have a total neurological recovery in 57-77% of cases at hospital discharge, but no long-term data are available. ⋯ Patients surviving a self-attempted hanging who did not have a CA had a good neurological outcome. The rate of suicidal recidivism is particularly important, which justifies joint work with psychiatrists.

The clinical characteristics of an injury of external iliac artery branches in blunt pelvic trauma have not yet been sufficiently studied. We evaluated the relationship between injury characteristics and the presence of an injury to external iliac artery branches in blunt pelvic trauma. ⋯ Blunt pelvic trauma with hemodynamic instability may be associated with concomitant external iliac artery branch injury.

Observational Study
Disseminated intravascular coagulation is associated with the neurologic outcome of cardiac arrest survivors.
We aimed to examine the serial changes in coagulofibrinolytic markers that occurred after the restoration of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) in cardiac arrest patients, who were treated with targeted temperature management (TTM). We also evaluated the association between the disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) score and clinical outcomes. ⋯ The activity of coagulation and fibrinolysis decreased over time. An increased DIC score was an independent prognostic factor for poor neurologic outcome and 6-month mortality.

The incidence of heart failure (HF) has reached epidemic levels in western populations, and the majority of these patients are admitted to hospitals through the emergency department (ED). We aimed to aid clinicians assessing natriuretic peptide (NP) levels in cases with suspected HF. In this study, we investigated the effect of anemia on amino-terminal pro-BNP (NT-proBNP) and on B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) levels. ⋯ The data suggest that clinicians examining patients admitted to the ED with suspected HF should consider that anemia could lead to increases in NT-proBNP and BNP levels.
