Silver: an age-old treatment modality in modern times.
The use of silver as an antimicrobial for infection spans hundreds of years. The ancient Greeks and Romans used silver to disinfect their water and food supplies. Silver was also used in ancient times to treat burns and wounds as a wound dressing. ⋯ S. Food and Drug Administration in the 1920s. Known by the proprietary name Diprivan or its generic name propofol, this anesthetic drug is among the most widely used sedatives in the United States. Propofol has a unique pharmacologic profile, making it an ideal drug for use in plastic surgery nursing. Propofol is utilized as an anesthetic induction agent and sedative during many plastic surgeries. This article explores indications, pharmacokinetics, adverse effects, and potential abuse of propofol.

"You have breast cancer" may be some of the most devastating words a woman may hear. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women and the second leading cause of cancer death in women behind lung cancer in the United States (). ⋯ S. women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and more than 40,000 will die from this disease. Although the incidence of breast cancer has increased, death rates are on the decline due to early detection and improved treatments ().

Aeromedical evacuation (AE) is a system within the Air Force to provide patient care in the air during transport between levels of care. The system predominantly uses guard and reserve flight crew members who are arranged into rotations. However, when a need arises because of heavy influx of sick and wounded, the activation of crew members comes with short notice. This article presents my experiences flying AE in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom/Enduring Freedom.
