Hypoxic liver injury (HLI) is a frequent and life-threatening complication in critically ill patients that occurs in up to ten percent of critically ill patients. However, there is a lack of data on HLI following cardiac arrest and its clinical implications on outcome. Aim of this study was to investigate incidence, outcome and functional outcome of patients with HLI after in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA) and out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). ⋯ New onset of HLI is a frequent finding after IHCA and OHCA. HLI is associated with increased mortality, unfavourable neurological and overall outcome.

A comparison of non-invasive versus invasive measures of intracranial pressure in hypoxic ischaemic brain injury after cardiac arrest.
Increased intracranial pressure (ICP) in hypoxic ischaemic brain injury (HIBI) can cause secondary ischaemic brain injury and culminate in brain death. Invasive ICP monitoring is limited by associated risks in HIBI patients. We sought to evaluate the agreement between invasive ICP measurements and non-invasive estimators of ICP (nICP) in HIBI patients. ⋯ ONSD and TCD methods demonstrated agreement with invasively-monitored ICP, suggesting their potential roles in the detection of intracranial hypertension in HIBI after cardiac arrest.

To perform a systematic review to answer 'In adults with attempted resuscitation after non-traumatic cardiac arrest does care at a specialised cardiac arrest centre (CAC) compared to care in a healthcare facility not designated as a specialised cardiac arrest centre improve patient outcomes?' ⋯ Very low certainty of evidence suggests that post-cardiac arrest care at CACs is associated with improved outcomes at hospital discharge. There remains a need for high quality data to fully elucidate the impact of CACs.
