Effects of Shenfu Injection on Survival and Neurological Outcome after Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest: A Randomised Controlled Trial.
We aimed to assess the effects of Shenfu injection (SFI) in combination with epinephrine during cardiac arrest on survival and neurological outcome after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). ⋯ The combination of SFI and epinephrine had favourable neurological outcomes after OHCA compared with those with epinephrine alone, whereas the survival to admission was not significantly altered.

Prognostic value of somatosensory evoked potential in cardiac arrest patients without withdrawal of life-sustaining therapy.
The reliability of somatosensory evoked potential (SSEP) to predict a poor outcome of cardiac arrest patients after targeted temperature management (TTM) has been questioned due to self-fulfilling prophecy. ⋯ Our results provide further evidence that SSEP exactly predicts poor neurological outcome in these patients and suggest that caution be taken when the brainstem reflex is used as a single test to make decisions regarding WLST.

The TTM2-trial is a multi-centre randomised clinical trial where targeted temperature management (TTM) at 33 °C will be compared with normothermia and early treatment of fever (≥37.8 °C) after Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA). This paper presents the design and rationale of the TTM2-trial follow-up, where information on secondary and exploratory outcomes will be collected. We also present the explorative outcome analyses which will focus on neurocognitive function and societal participation in OHCA-survivors. ⋯ The TTM2-trial follow-up is a pragmatic yet detailed pre-planned and standardised assessment of patient's outcome designed to ensure data-quality, decrease missing data and provide optimal conditions to investigate clinically relevant effects of TTM, including OHCA-survivors' neurocognitive function and societal participation.

The effect of levosimendan on survival and cardiac performance in an ischaemic cardiac arrest model- a blinded randomised placebo-controlled study in swine.
Survival after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest remains poor. Levosimendan could be a new intervention in this setting. Therefore, we conducted a blinded, placebo controlled randomized study investigating the effects of levosimendan on survival and cardiac performance in an ischemic cardiac arrest model in swine. ⋯ Levosimendan given intra-arrest and during the first 24-h of post-resuscitation care improved survival and cardiac performance in this ischemic cardiac arrest model. In this study, we investigate the impact of bystander relation and medical training on survival to hospital discharge in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients receiving bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). ⋯ This study supports ongoing efforts to crowdsource a larger number of first responders with medical training to OHCA patients to assist with the provision of CPR and early defibrillation.
