Brain injury in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) survivors affects health status and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). It is unknown how HRQoL evolves over time, and assessments at different time points may lead to different results. ⋯ OHCA survivors showed stable health status and HRQoL with only minor differences between six months and five years. Younger survivors with long tROSC, late awakening, and more anxiety and depression symptoms at six months, had reduced health status the first two years with significant improvements towards the fourth year.

Specific training modules focusing on mechanical chest compression and device use might be considered in a structured manner during the standard advanced life support (ALS) courses. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of a specific brief 15 min training on the use of a specific mechanical CPR device during Advanced Cardiac Life Support courses on its correct use and on attendees' satisfaction.

Cerebral edema following cardiac arrest is a well-known complication of resuscitation and portends a poor outcome. We identified predictors of post-cardiac arrest cerebral edema and tested the association of cerebral edema with discharge outcome. ⋯ Our study identified several risk factors associated with the development of cerebral edema following cardiac arrest. Further studies are needed to determine the benefits of early interventions in these high-risk patients.
