Sustained inflation with 21% versus 100% oxygen during cardiopulmonary resuscitation of asphyxiated newborn piglets - A randomized controlled animal study.
Current neonatal resuscitation guidelines recommend using 100% oxygen during chest compressions (CC), however the most effective oxygen concentration during cardiopulmonary resuscitation remains controversial. ⋯ In term newborn piglets resuscitated by CC + SI, the use of 21% oxygen resulted in a similar time to ROSC, short-term survival, and hemodynamic recovery compared to 100% oxygen.

Early-onset pneumonia following bag-mask ventilation versus endotracheal intubation during cardiopulmonary resuscitation: A substudy of the CAAM trial.
Early-onset pneumonia (EOP) is a common in-hospital complication in survivors of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. In this substudy of the CAAM trial, we aimed to compare whether bag mask ventilation (BMV) compared to endotracheal intubation (ETI) performed during cardiopulmonary resuscitation increases the risk of developing EOP. ⋯ In this substudy of the CAAM trial, development of early-onset pneumonia in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest survivors did not depend on airway management technique during CPR.

A pragmatic randomized trial of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training for families of cardiac patients before hospital discharge using a mobile application.
Since over 80% of sudden cardiac arrests occur in the home, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training for family members of high-risk cardiac patients represents a promising intervention. Implementation of Basic life support training for school children: Online education for potential instructors? Results of a cluster randomised, controlled, non-inferiority trial.
Comprehensive training of the population in basic life support (BLS) increases the chance of survival in cardiac arrest. To implement BLS trainings at schools a high number of instructors will be needed. This non-inferiority study investigated, if online education is effective to prepare instructors to teach BLS compared to face-to-face education. ⋯ Integrating all results of this study, online education may be an effective alternative to prepare potential BLS instructors. Using free online courses, motivated persons can independently acquire necessary skills to become instructors and autonomously realise low cost BLS trainings at schools.

Resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta in zone I versus zone III in a porcine model of non-traumatic cardiac arrest and cardiopulmonary resuscitation: A randomized study.
Resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) in zone I increases systemic blood pressure during cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), while also obstructing the blood flow to distal organs. The aim of the study was to compare the effects on systemic blood pressure and visceral blood flow of REBOA-III (zone III, infrarenal) and REBOA-I (zone I, supraceliac) during non-traumatic cardiac arrest and CPR. ⋯ In experimental non-traumatic cardiac arrest and CPR, REBOA-I increased systemic blood pressures more than REBOA-III, and the potential enhancement of visceral organ blood flow by REBOA-III was short-lived.
