The incidence and outcomes of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest precipitated by drug overdose: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OHCA) precipitated by drug overdose (OD) are becoming an increasing public health problem in developed countries. Empirical data on the global incidence and outcomes are needed to guide preventive and treatment strategies. ⋯ The incidence and survival outcomes of drug OD OHCA varies substantially across regions. Effective strategies designed to reduce incidence and improve survival outcomes are needed.

Intraosseous versus Intravenous access in Patients with Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest: Insights from the Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium Continuous Chest Compression Trial.
To examine outcomes associated with intraosseous access route attempt for delivery of medications during out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) resuscitation. ⋯ Among patients with OHCA, intraosseous access attempt was associated with worse ROSC rates but no difference in survival. Further studies are necessary to elucidate the optimal access route among OHCA patients.

Trends in Overdose-Related Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrests in Arizona.
Opioid overdose mortality has increased in North America; however, recent regional trends in the proportion of treated overdose-related out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OD-OHCA) compared to out-of-hospital cardiac arrest of presumed cardiac etiology (C-OHCA) are largely unknown. Our aim is to assess trends in the prevalence and outcomes of OD-OHCAs compared to C-OHCAs in Arizona. ⋯ There has been a significant increase in the proportion of OD-OHCAs in Arizona between 2010-2015. OD-OHCA patients were younger, were less likely to present with a shockable rhythm, and more likely to survive than patients with C-OHCA. These data should be considered in prevention and treatment efforts.
