Helical tomotherapy and intensity modulated proton therapy in the treatment of early stage prostate cancer: a treatment planning comparison.
To compare helical tomotherapy (HT) and intensity modulated proton therapy (IMPT) on early stage prostate cancer treatments delivered with simultaneous integrated boost (SIB) in moderate hypofractionation. ⋯ HT and IMPT produce similar dose distributions in the target volume. The current knowledge on dose-effect relations does not allow to quantify the clinical impact of the large sparing of IMPT at medium-to-low doses.

To asses carbon ion radiation therapy (RT) performed as re-irradiation in 28 patients with recurrent tumors. ⋯ Due to the physical characteristics particle therapy offers a new treatment modality in cases with tumor recurrences. With carbon ions, the additional biological benefits may be exploited for long-term tumor control. Further evaluation in a larger patients' cohort will be performed in the future.

To investigate the changes in tumour proliferation (using FLT), metabolism (using FDG), and hypoxia (using F-miso) during curative (chemo-) radiotherapy (RT) in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). ⋯ Three different PET acquisitions can be performed quasi-simultaneously (4-7 days) before and during radiotherapy in patients with NSCLC. Our results at 46 Gy suggest that a fast decrease in the proliferation of both tumours and nodes exists during radiotherapy with differences in metabolism (borderline significant decrease) and hypoxia (stable).

The aim of the current study was to investigate the prognostic value of dual time point F-18 FDG PET/CT in patients with early stage (stage I & II) NSCLC. ⋯ In conclusion, %ΔSUV(max) measured by dual time point F-18 FDG PET/CT might not have a prognostic value for overall survival and DFS in surgically resected early stage (stage I & II) NSCLC.

To analyze the recurrence patterns in patients with newly diagnosed glioblastoma (GBM) treated with conformal radiotherapy (RT) plus concomitant and adjuvant temozolomide (TMZ), and to compare the patterns of failure according to different target volume delineations. ⋯ Most of patients treated with RT plus concomitant and adjuvant RT have central recurrences, however distant new lesions may occur in more than 10% of patients. The use of target delineation using postoperative residual tumor and cavity plus 2-cm margins is associated with smaller volumes of normal brain irradiated to high doses as compared with plans including expanded edema, without a significant increase of the risk of marginal recurrences. Future clinical randomized studies need to compare the different planning methods in terms of efficacy and risk of late radiation-induced toxicity.
