Postpartum depression (PPD) affects 10 to 15% of women and is associated with socio-economic burden and maternal morbidity. Recent studies showed that epidural analgesia may be associated with the development of PPD, although this association remains inconclusive. ⋯ Our study did not demonstrate an association between PPD at 3 months postdelivery and labour epidural analgesia.

Costoclavicular brachial plexus block (CC-BPB) is a relatively new regional anaesthetic technique and there are no data on the minimum effective volume 90 (MEV90) of 0.5% ropivacaine required for an ultrasound-guided CC-BPB. ⋯ ChiCTR-IOR-15007515, Chinese Clinical Trials Registry (www.chictr.org.cn).

Randomized Controlled Trial
Oral fluid intake during the first stage of labour: A randomised trial.
Obstetric anaesthesia has been associated with concern for the inhalation of gastric contents for many years, justifying fasting during labour. However, many anaesthesiologists and obstetricians now allow fluid intake during labour. ⋯ The current study reveals that the percentage of pregnant women with an 'empty stomach', defined by an antral CSA less than 300 mm in a semirecumbent position with a 45-degree head-up tilt, was comparable at full cervical dilation among those who remained nil by mouth and those allowed to drink up to 400 ml for 90 min after their randomisation.
