Review Comparative StudyAre maternal cortisol levels related to preterm birth?
To examine the evidence related to the relationship between maternal cortisol levels and preterm birth. ⋯ Researchers can use the findings of this review to develop future studies that examine the relationship between cortisol levels and preterm birth. Health care providers need to assess pregnant women's stress levels more closely and provide appropriate referrals and treatment to ensure that any actions that may possibly lower stress are being taken to reduce the likelihood of preterm birth.

Multicenter Study Comparative StudyProvider readiness for neonatal resuscitation in rural hospitals.
To describe nurse and physician readiness for neonatal resuscitation in rural hospitals. ⋯ Maintaining high levels of readiness for neonatal resuscitation in rural hospitals is challenging. Nurses and physicians should make special effort to obtain continuing neonatal resuscitation education to ensure optimal outcomes when newborn emergencies arise in rural hospitals. Teamwork training for neonatal resuscitation readiness is an important topic for future rural health research.

Randomized Controlled TrialA pilot study of a nursing intervention protocol to minimize maternal-infant separation after Cesarean birth.
To pilot test a standardized intraoperative and postoperative nursing intervention protocol to minimize maternal-infant separation after Cesarean. ⋯ The pilot was valuable in examining intervention feasibility, appropriate outcome measures, and data collection strategies. The standardized intervention protocol shows promise for positively affecting maternal-infant outcomes after Cesarean delivery and merits further testing.

ReviewDifferentiation and clinical implications of postpartum depression and postpartum psychosis.
Postpartum depression and postpartum psychosis are serious mood disorders encountered by nurses working in a variety of settings. Postpartum depression refers to a nonpsychotic depressive episode, while postpartum psychosis refers to a manic or affective psychotic episode linked temporally with childbirth. The nursing profession plays a crucial role in the early identification and treatment of these postpartum mood disorders. This article explains the classification, clinical presentation, epidemiology, management, and long-term outcomes of postpartum depression and postpartum psychosis.

Clinical TrialThe effects of mindfulness-based yoga during pregnancy on maternal psychological and physical distress.
To examine the feasibility and level of acceptability of a mindful yoga intervention provided during pregnancy and to gather preliminary data on the efficacy of the intervention in reducing distress. ⋯ Preliminary evidence supports yoga's potential efficacy in these areas, particularly if started early in the pregnancy.
