Analysis of the efficacy and prognosis of limb-salvage surgery for osteosarcoma around the knee.
Limb-salvage surgery has become the standard of care for extremity osteosarcoma. In this study, we investigated the survival and functional outcomes of patients with osteosarcoma around the knee who were treated with limb-salvage surgery. ⋯ Treating osteosarcoma around the knee with limb-salvage surgery can preserve most of the knee's functionality. Attention must be paid to prevent the relatively high incidence of postoperative complications.

Comorbidity affects outcomes after colorectal cancer surgery. However, it's importance in risk adjustment is unclear and different measures are being used. This study aims to assess its impact on post-operative outcomes. ⋯ Irrespective of the measure used, comorbidity is an independent risk factor for adverse outcome after colorectal surgery. However, the importance of comorbidity in risk-adjustment models is limited. Probably the work and costs of data collection for auditing can be reduced, without compromising risk-adjustment.

Lanreotide Autogel 90 mg and lymphorrhea prevention after axillary node dissection in breast cancer: a phase III double blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial.
The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of Lanreotide Autogel 90 mg PR to prevent lymphorrhea after axillary dissection in breast cancer. ⋯ Our study did not identify any overall significant reduction of lymphorrhea on lanreotide.

Evaluation of complete cytoreductive surgery and two intraperitoneal chemotherapy techniques in Pseudomyxoma peritonei.
Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) is a low-grade malignancy characterized by mucinous tumor on the peritoneal surface. Treatment involves cytoreductive surgery (CRS) to remove all macroscopic tumor and perioperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy (PIC) to eliminate remaining microscopic disease. ⋯ Patients treated for PMP with complete CRS and PIC achieved satisfactory long-term outcome. The most important prognostic factor was histopathological differentiation, but acceptable survival was observed even in patients with aggressive histology and extensive intraperitoneal tumor growth. Administration of EPIC and HIPEC was equally efficacious with respect to long-term outcome.

The aim of this prospective cohort study was to investigate the impact of preoperative hepatitis B viral load, as well as postoperative antiviral therapy, on the risk of long-term survival after curative resection of hepatitis B virus-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). ⋯ Hepatitis B virus-related HCC patients with preoperative high viral load led to poorer overall and recurrence-free survival than those with low viral load after curative resection. To prevent postoperative recurrence, antiviral therapy should be initiated in those patients with hepatitis B virus DNA ≥ 10,000 copies/ml.
