A comparison of three methods for nonpalpable breast cancer excision.
To evaluate the efficacy of three methods of breast-conserving surgery (BCS) for nonpalpable invasive breast cancer in obtaining adequate resection margins and volumes of resection. ⋯ US-guided BCS for nonpalpable invasive breast cancer was more accurate than WL- and ROLL-guided surgery because it optimised the surgeon's ability to obtain adequate margins. The excision volumes were large in all excision groups, especially in the ROLL group.

This retrospective multi-institutional study addresses the role of surgical cytoreduction and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in the treatment of multicystic peritoneal mesothelioma (MCPM). MCPM is an uncommon tumour with uncertain malignant potential and no current standard therapy. Additionally, poorly defined pathological and biological features of this disease were investigated. ⋯ MCPM is a borderline tumour with a high propensity to local-regional recurrence. Definitive tumour eradication by means of cytoreduction and HIPEC seems more effective than debulking surgery in preventing disease relapse. Low mitotic rate and poor Ki-67 expression might be related to the peculiar behaviour of MCMP.

Neoadjuvant docetaxel-based chemoradiation for resectable adenocarcinoma of the pancreas: New neoadjuvant regimen was safe and provided an interesting pathologic response.
To assess the safety and efficacy of a new neoadjuvant chemoradiation (CRT) docetaxel-based regimen in patients with resectable adenocarcinoma of the pancreatic head or body. ⋯ Neoadjuvant docetaxel-based chemoradiation is well-tolerated. Resected patients had a prolonged survival time. Further studies are needed to confirm our findings and determine the role of such a neoadjuvant approach.

Ductal carcinoma in situ of the breast. Long-term follow-up of health-related quality of life, emotional reactions and body image.
To investigate and compare long-term health-related quality of life (HRQoL), body image, and emotional reactions in women with ductal carcinoma in situ of the breast (DCIS) treated with different surgical methods. ⋯ Women treated for DCIS have a very satisfactory long-term HRQoL. However, body image appeared to be negatively affected in mastectomy and IBR patients. Our results indicate that these women need more preoperative information about what changes in body image to expect after surgery.

English national guidelines recommend that breast reconstruction is made available to women with breast cancer undergoing mastectomy. We examined the use of immediate reconstruction (IR) across English Cancer Networks, who are responsible for the regional organisation of cancer services and ensuring equitable access to treatment. ⋯ There is substantial regional variation in immediate reconstruction use in England that is not explained by the characteristics of the local patient population. English Cancer Networks should act to reduce this variation. They should also examine why rates of reconstruction differ between particular patient groups.
