Trends in overweight or obesity and other anthropometric indices in adults aged 18-60 years in western Saudi Arabia.
The prevalence of overweight and obesity has increased considerably in Saudi Arabia in the past two decades. We conducted this study because to examine trends in weight gain with age and related anthropometric measurements in Saudi Arabia such data are limited. ⋯ There was an unequal distribution in numbers of subjects between study groups. Convenience sampling was used to recruit the participants.

Clinical TrialEffect of Nigella sativa supplementation over a one-year period on lipid levels, blood pressure and heart rate in type-2 diabetic patients receiving oral hypoglycemic agents: nonrandomized clinical trial.
Diabetic patients with hypertension and dyslipidemia are at a high risk of cardiovascular complications. ⋯ There were 9 subjects in each group lost to follow up; thus the sample size could not be maintained as per the sample size calculation. The study was nonrandomized and thus there was a possibility of allocation bias. (Clinical trial registration number: CTRI/2013/06/003781, Clinical Trial Registry of India).

Observational StudyEffects of blood transfusion on oxygen extraction ratio and central venous saturation in children after cardiac surgery.
Red blood cell transfusion is common in critically ill children after cardiac surgery. Since the threshold for hemoglobin (Hb) transfusion need is not well defined, the threshold Hb level at which dependent critical oxygen uptake-to-delivery (VO2-DO2) status compensation is uncertain. ⋯ The limitation of this study is the small number of patients that had increased O2ER before transfusion. There were few available variables to assess oxygen consumption.
