Pediatric emergency department directors' benchmarking survey: fiscal year 2001.
To answer basic questions, using precise definitions, regarding emergency department (ED) utilization, wait times, services, and attending physician staffing of representative pediatric EDs (PEDs). ⋯ Benchmarking of PEM staffing and performance indicators by PEM directors yields important administrative data. PEDs have higher census and admission rates compared with information from all EDs, while their attending staffing, wait times, and rate of patients who leave without being seen are comparable to those of general EDs.

Emergency medicine training programs' educational requirements in the management of psychiatric emergencies: current perspective.
The purpose of this study was to determine the extent of training in clinical psychiatry that is provided and/or required by emergency medicine (EM) residency training programs and pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) subspecialty residency training programs. ⋯ Standardized psychiatric training is not required of most trainees in EM and PEM. Few (24%) training programs provide formal psychiatric training for their EM residents, and even fewer (< 3%) provide such training for their PEM fellows.
