Multidisciplinary, In Situ Simulation Improves Experienced Caregiver Confidence With High-Risk Pediatric Emergencies.
Emergency department (ED) caregivers have reported feeling uncomfortable performing emergency pediatric procedures, likely because of either a lack of training or infrequent exposure to these events. To address these gaps, ongoing education for experienced ED caregivers must aim to improve caregiver confidence with high-risk, low-volume pediatric emergency care. This study used multidisciplinary, in situ simulations to facilitate improved caregiver confidence when treating pediatric emergencies in an ED setting. ⋯ Multidisciplinary, in situ simulation improves experienced ED caregivers' confidence with pediatric emergencies in an ED setting. These findings suggest that investment in simulation-based education may improve clinical care and quality and safety improvement plans for the treatment of pediatric emergencies in general EDs.

Using Dry-Erase Boards to Share Information in a Pediatric Emergency Department to Improve Family Experience of Care.
To determine whether the use of dry-erase boards for communicating the plan of care of children evaluated in the pediatric emergency department (PED) improves the family experience of care. ⋯ Recommending use of dry-erase boards in pediatric emergency department rooms did not increase overall measures of experience of care, although patients who recalled dry-erase board use did report higher performance. Further study could explore how to effectively and efficiently use these boards.

Efficacy of Cartoons as a Distraction Technique for Children Undergoing Suture of Facial Lacerations in the Emergency Department.
To show the efficacy of cartoon as a distraction technique in suturing a child patient in the emergency room. ⋯ Cartoon distraction techniques can reduce the treatment duration and number of assistants, which also makes it appropriate for the emergency room. In addition, our results indicate that the pre-/post-local injection FPS score is a good predictor of success.
