Interhospital Transport of Pediatric Patients in Denmark: A Survey of Current Practice.
No national guidelines exist in Denmark regarding interhospital transport of critically ill children. The aim of this study was to disclose which physicians actually accompany critically ill children during interhospital transports nationwide and whether the physicians have adequate clinical skills to perform interhospital transfers. ⋯ Great heterogeneity was found in the local transport strategies and practical skill sets of accompanying physicians. Overall, there is room for improvement in the management of interhospital transport of critically ill children in Denmark, perhaps by increasing the availability of specialized pediatric transport services for critically ill children nationwide.

Randomized Controlled TrialPerformance of Emergency Medical Service Providers in Pediatric and Adult Simulation of Unstable Supraventricular Tachycardia.
The aim of the study was to compare emergency medical service resuscitation of pediatric and adult high-fidelity manikins in unstable supraventricular tachycardia. The primary objective was time to cardioversion. The secondary objective was to assess if the cardioversion was synchronized at the correct dosage for the manikin's weight. ⋯ Emergency medical service providers did not have a significant difference in time to cardioversion between pediatric and adult unstable supraventricular tachycardia simulations.

The Differential Diagnosis of Vertigo in Children: A Systematic Review of 2726 Cases.
Vertigo is a relatively common complaint in children with 5.3% of pediatric patients complaining of this symptom. Although the causes of vertigo have been well established in adults, the diagnoses in children have not been well described. The aims of this systematic review are to discover the current information regarding etiologies of vertigo in children and to determine the most common diagnoses that present with vertigo in pediatric patients. ⋯ Although the most common causes of pediatric vertigo include vestibular migraine and benign paroxysmal vertigo of childhood, the etiologies are myriad. Rates and credible intervals are provided to permit a probabilistic diagnostic approach to these children.

The Utility of a Travel Screen at Triage in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
The travel screen was implemented by emergency departments (EDs) across the country in 2014 to detect patients exposed to Ebola early and prevent local outbreaks. It remains part of the triage protocol in many EDs to detect communicable disease from abroad and has become a defacto screen for other travel-related illness. Its utility has not been studied in the pediatric ED. ⋯ Although a positive travel screen was mildly predictive of inpatient admission, information is not available to providers about travel-related risk. Recent literature suggests integrating a travel history with presenting symptoms and region of travel and could produce a more specific travel screen. A revised travel screen should be implemented and studied in the pediatric ED.

ReviewRapid Diagnostic Tests for Meningitis and Encephalitis-BioFire.
Meningitis and encephalitis (ME) are important causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Patients suspected of having ME are often hospitalized and started on empiric antimicrobial treatment, because of the potential adverse consequences of delaying the diagnosis or treatment. ⋯ This newer rapid diagnostic tool has an overall high sensitivity and specificity for the diagnosis of ME with a fast turnaround time and has the potential to improve resource utilization for patients presenting with suspicion of ME. However, further research is needed to determine its optimal use in the evaluation of patients with suspected ME.
