Practice Guideline GuidelineClinical practice guideline: Otitis media with effusion.
The clinical practice guideline on otitis media with effusion (OME) provides evidence-based recommendations on diagnosing and managing OME in children. This is an update of the 1994 clinical practice guideline "Otitis Media With Effusion in Young Children," which was developed by the Agency for Healthcare Policy and Research (now the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality). In contrast to the earlier guideline, which was limited to children aged 1 to 3 years with no craniofacial or neurologic abnormalities or sensory deficits, the updated guideline applies to children aged 2 months through 12 years with or without developmental disabilities or underlying conditions that predispose to OME and its sequelae. ⋯ This guideline is not intended as a sole source of guidance in evaluating children with OME. Rather, it is designed to assist primary care and other clinicians by providing an evidence-based framework for decision-making strategies. It is not intended to replace clinical judgment or establish a protocol for all children with this condition, and may not provide the only appropriate approach to diagnosing and managing this problem.

Electron microscopic analysis of biofilm on endotracheal tubes removed from intubated neonates.
To determine if the phenomenon of biofilm accumulation and associated microbial colonization occurs on the surface of endotracheal tubes in the region of the subglottis in neonates. ⋯ This study demonstrates for the first time the presence of biofilm on the outer surface of neonatal endotracheal tubes. The data suggest that the presence of bacteria and/or biofilm does not correlate with other traditional indicators of microbial colonization.

Multicenter StudyOutcomes after nasal septoplasty: results from the Nasal Obstruction Septoplasty Effectiveness (NOSE) study.
Our goal was to assess disease-specific quality of life outcomes after nasal septoplasty in adults with nasal obstruction. ⋯ In patients with septal deformity, nasal septoplasty results in significant improvement in disease-specific quality of life, high patient satisfaction, and decreased medication use.

Incidental paranasal sinus imaging abnormalities and the normal Lund score in children.
Our goal was to determine the incidental Lund score for pediatric patients without chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). ⋯ The mean incidental Lund score in the absence of CRS approaches 3, and this should be considered when determining the diagnostic likelihood of CRS in pediatric patients.
