Use of a preoperative bleeding questionnaire in pediatric patients who undergo adenotonsillectomy.
To determine the efficacy of a preoperative bleeding questionnaire (POBQ) and coagulation screening in predicting hemorrhage associated with adenotonsillectomy. ⋯ The POBQ is an effective tool for identifying patients who are at potential risk for post-tonsillectomy bleeding. Patients with both a positive POBQ and coagulation screen had a statistically higher likelihood of postoperative bleeding than other patients. The POBQ allowed the identification of individuals with bleeding disorders to be treated before surgery, likely decreasing the risk of bleeding in these patients.

To report clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes of actinomycosis of the paranasal sinus. ⋯ Chronic unilateral maxillary sinusitis, a calcified density in the involved sinus on radiological studies, and unresponsiveness to antibiotics are characteristics of actinomycotic sinusitis. Surgical removal of the involved tissues and the restoration of sinus ventilation seem to be important factors for treating the disease.

ReviewEvaluation of meta-analyses in the otolaryngological literature.
To evaluate the quality of meta-analyses written on otolaryngological topics and define areas that can be improved upon in future studies. ⋯ The quality of meta-analyses on otolaryngological topics is moderate. Future meta-analyses can be improved upon by following evidence-based guidelines for the reporting of meta-analyses, which include the use of a validity assessment tool, and consulting with an author familiar with meta-analysis methodology.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyA comparison of postoperative pain and complications in tonsillectomy using BiClamp forceps and electrocautery tonsillectomy.
To compare the efficacy and safety of BiClamp forceps tonsillectomy (BT) with standard electrocautery tonsillectomy (ET) in terms of postoperative pain and complication rates. ⋯ The use of BiClamp forceps in tonsillectomy reduces the intraoperative blood loss and postoperative pain score, and facilitates an early return to normal diet and activity.
