The Relationship Between Eyebrow and Eyelid Position in Patients With Ptosis, Dermatochalasis and Controls.
The purpose of this study is to explore mechanical and co-innervational factors involved in both voluntary and involuntary brow elevation among people affected by ptosis and dermatochalasis. ⋯ In eyelids with ptosis, mechanical brow elevation does not change eyelid position; however, voluntary brow elevation raises eyelid position to a similar position as maximal eyelid opening. These results argue against the contention that the brow is elevated to mechanically lift the eyelid in ptosis and instead suggest that the brow elevation is driven by efforts to raise the eyelid, possibly via co-innervation.

Comparative StudyParacanthal "One-Snip" Decompression in a Cadaver Model of Retrobulbar Hemorrhage.
The authors assess the effectiveness of a modified paracanthal or "one-snip" procedure compared with the traditional lateral canthotomy and inferior cantholysis in the reduction of intraocular pressure (IOP) and proptosis in a human cadaveric model of retrobulbar hemorrhage. ⋯ Compared with traditional lateral canthotomy xand inferior cantholysis, the modified paracanthal or "one-snip" procedure is effective for IOP reduction and led to mild improvement of proptosis in a cadaveric model of retrobulbar hemorrhage. The authors hope this study helps improve orbital compartment syndrome outcomes by providing an option that more providers will feel comfortable performing and therefore decreasing time to surgical decompression.

Safety Comparison of Laryngeal Mask Use With Endotracheal Intubation in Patients Undergoing Dacryocystorhinostomy Surgery.
This study will determine the safety of laryngeal mask airway (LMA) compared with endotracheal tube (ETT) in patients undergoing general anesthesia for dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) surgery. ⋯ The use of an LMA for airway control is safe and effective in patients undergoing general anesthesia for DCR surgery. No events of aspiration occurred with LMA use. Heart rate increase was significantly less in the LMA group. In our opinion, use of an LMA for airway control during DCR surgery is superior to use of an ETT. Airway protection, improved hemodynamics, and less difficulty in placement of the laryngeal airway device are all validated by this study.

Long-Term Outcomes of Eye-Sparing Surgery for Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma of Lacrimal Gland.
This study's primary purpose is to assess the long-term outcomes of patients who have undergone eye-sparing surgery and adjuvant radiotherapy for adenoid cystic carcinoma of the lacrimal gland. ⋯ Eye-sparing surgery and adjuvant radiotherapy have demonstrated favorable local control and long-term survival outcomes in patients with orbit-confined lacrimal gland adenoid cystic carcinoma. Consequently, eye-sparing surgery with adjuvant radiotherapy can be considered as a viable treatment option for orbit-confined lacrimal gland adenoid cystic carcinoma.

An Anatomical Murine Model of Heterotopic Periorbital Subunit Transplantation.
Conventional reconstructive methods fail to achieve satisfactory results in total eyelid defect cases. Vascularized composite tissue allotransplantation might provide both good appearance and function for these patients. The structure of the eyelid is exceptional because it simultaneously consists of skin, connective tissue, the striated muscle, fiber structure, aponeuroses, and mucosa. Thus, before clinical application of eyelid allotransplantation, more experiments are needed to clarify the impact of ischemia, immunal suppressive agents, and deinnervation effects on these sophisticated structures. We developed an heterotopic periorbital transplantation model in rats to facilitate further experiment in this field. ⋯ Our study proved the anatomical feasibility of periorbital transplantation by establishing a heterotopic transplantation model, which might facilitate future eyelid allotransplantation-related experiments.
