The impact of combining concept-based learning and concept-mapping pedagogies on nursing students' clinical reasoning abilities.
Integrating contemporary teaching strategies into the nursing curriculum is an effective approach to enhance undergraduate clinical-judgment and reasoning abilities. ⋯ The data collection tools utilized in this study can be used as clinical teaching aides, hence maximizing the impact of blended teaching strategies by providing the faculty with specific feedback regarding students' clinical reasoning and judgment abilities. Institutionalizing these processes by initiating relevant policies and guidelines is essential to help students take command of their clinical-reasoning, maturity, and responsibility in a practice area that is constantly changing and evolving.

The competence of nurse mentors in mentoring students in clinical practice - A cross-sectional study.
Nurses play an important role in developing the competence of nursing students and acting as role models for students during clinical practice placements. Nurses need diverse competence to successfully mentor nursing student. ⋯ According to their profiles, mentors have diverse needs for support in building their mentoring competence. We suggest that healthcare organizations should provide nursing mentors with education that is based on their individual levels of mentoring competence. Nurses should also be encouraged to use time for reflective discussion with students during clinical practice.

Comparative study of a simulated incident with multiple victims and immersive virtual reality.
The main objective of the study is to determine the efficiency in the execution of the START (Simple Triage and Rapid Treatment) triage, comparing Virtual Reality (VR) to Clinical Simulation (CS) in a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI). The secondary objective is to determine the stress produced in the health professionals in the two situations described. ⋯ The results show that virtual reality method is as efficient as clinical simulation for training on the execution of basic triage (START model). Also, based on the sAA results, we can attest that clinical simulation creates a more stressful training experience for the student, so that is should not be substituted by the use of virtual reality, although the latter could be used as a complementary activity.

A new approach to multi-professional end of life care training using a sequential simulation (SqS Simulation™) design: A mixed methods study.
A need for improved education and training for hospital staff caring for patients in the last year of life was identified at an urban UK hospital. Sequential Simulation (SqS Simulation™) is a type of simulation that recreates a patient's journey, considering the longitudinal element of care and how this might impact on the patient's experiences, wishes and needs. ⋯ This study has shown an overall improvement in confidence across disciplines after attending a SqS Simulation™ course. The differences in quantitative results between disciplines were explored through the qualitative data and revealed a difference in what the professionals gained from it. Further studies are required to assess its effectiveness in maintaining confidence of end of life care in practice, as well as its benefit to patient outcomes.

Comparing the effects of traditional lecture and flipped classroom on nursing students' critical thinking disposition: A quasi-experimental study.
One of the most principal key aims of nursing education is to promote nursing students' and nurses' critical thinking. Therefore, nursing education needs to develop an appropriate curriculum and use effective instructional strategies for critical thinking promotion. Flipped classroom is a teaching method which substitutes individual learning for group learning in a dynamic, interactive environment where the teacher guides students to understand and use concepts. ⋯ This study shows the positive effects of flipped classroom on nursing students' critical thinking disposition. It is recommended that future studies assess the effects of flipped classroom on other nursing education outcomes.
