The Association Between Physician Race/Ethnicity and Patient Satisfaction: an Exploration in Direct to Consumer Telemedicine.
Patient satisfaction measures have important implications for physicians. Patient bias against non-White physicians may impact physician satisfaction ratings, but this has not been widely studied. ⋯ In our study, patients reported lower satisfaction with some groups of non-White American physicians, which may have implications for their compensation, professional reputation, and job satisfaction.

Prior studies have demonstrated the importance of diversity among physicians. Identifying trends in diversity within the most competitive internal medicine (IM) fellowships can guide focused efforts to address barriers to equal representation. ⋯ Despite trends towards better representation among women and underrepresented minorities (URMs) among fellows in the most competitive IM specialties from 2008 to 2013, there has been a stagnation in both gender and racial diversity over the past 5 years. Further efforts must be undertaken to address barriers to entry and advocate for better representation of women and URMs in fellowship programs.

National guidelines indicate that healthcare providers should routinely screen women of reproductive age for experience of intimate partner violence. We know little about intimate partner violence (IPV) screening and disclosure experience among women older than reproductive age. ⋯ Middle-aged women may benefit from routine IPV screening and response in the healthcare setting. Such interventions should be sensitive to concerns regarding stigma and privacy that may be prevalent among this population.
