Incoming otolaryngology residents are expected to triage and manage airway, bleeding, and other emergencies with little prior experience. Simulation-based education has become increasingly important as it provides tools to develop psychomotor skills and judgment early in residency, using realistic experiences while eliminating patient risk. We hypothesize that a Boot Camp course emphasizing basic otolaryngology management will increase participants' confidence and be perceived as useful in developing their knowledge, technical skills, self-confidence, and improving clinical performance, both immediately and 6 months following the course. ⋯ An intensive, simulation-based Boot Camp addressing airway, bleeding, and other otolaryngology emergencies was successful in improving junior otolaryngology residents' confidence and was perceived as useful in developing knowledge, technical skills, self-confidence, and improving clinical performance.

To describe a novel transvestibular endoscopic approach for the exposure, exploration, and resection of lesions in the infratemporal fossa (ITF) and parapharyngeal space (PPS). ⋯ The transvestibular endoscopic approach to the ITF and PPS offers direct and minimally invasive access to select lesions within this region. Further use of this approach will allow us to determine its potential and limitations.

To determine if recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) has biological effects on the invasiveness of human oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCCA) cell lines. ⋯ Recombinant human BMP-2 has an adverse biological effect on invasiveness of human OSCCA cell lines in vitro. This adverse effect is dependent on the baseline gene expression of BMP-2. Changes in expression of genes involved with tumor metastasis correlated to the invasion assay findings. These data raise concern for the safe application of rhBMP-2 for reconstruction of bone defects in oral cancer patients.

This study aimed to describe the diagnosis and management of congenital dilation of Stensen's duct (CDSD) in seven cases. ⋯ CDSD is an uncommon congenital disorder of the parotid gland. Management with parotidectomy is effective.

To describe our technique and initial experience of intraoperative tumor localization with surgeon-performed ultrasound-guided needle dye injection. ⋯ At the conclusion of this manuscript, the participants should be able to understand the technique and advantages of intraoperative tumor localization with surgeon-performed ultrasound-guided needle blue dye injection.
