To determine whether ganciclovir (GCV) treatment reduces sensorineural hearing loss in cytomegalovirus (CMV)-infected mice. The effects of GCV on viral load, absolute neutrophil count (ANC), and outer hair cell (OHC) integrity were also investigated. ⋯ NA Laryngoscope, 130:1064-1069, 2020.

In otolaryngology, postoperative pain management lacks evidence-based guidelines. We designed a prospective, multiphasic study aimed to develop evidence-based guidelines for postoperative pain management within our institution. In this first phase of our project, we investigated opioid prescription and consumption as well as pain trends for common otolaryngologic procedures. ⋯ 2 Laryngoscope, 130:659-665, 2020.

Predictive models to forecast the likelihood of specific outcomes after surgical intervention allow informed shared decision-making by surgeons and patients. Previous studies have suggested that existing general surgical risk calculators poorly forecast head and neck surgical outcomes. However, no large study has addressed this question while subdividing subjects by surgery performed. ⋯ 4 Laryngoscope, 130:679-684, 2020.

To examine the perspectives of current otolaryngology-head and neck surgery residents and faculty members on educational formats and approaches. To assess the effects of a novel integrative educational curriculum for residents by examining results from the otolaryngology training examination (OTE). We hypothesized that altering the current curriculum to accentuate resident participation would result in improved performance on the OTE. ⋯ 2 Laryngoscope, 130:615-621, 2020.

Combined anterior and posterior tracheobronchopexy is a novel surgical approach for the management of severe tracheobronchomalacia (TBM). We present our institutional experience with this procedure. Our objective was to determine the utility and safety of anterior and posterior tracheopexy in the treatment of severe TBM. ⋯ 4 Laryngoscope, 130:E65-E74, 2020.
