Indications for antiplatelet and anticoagulation use are expanding. There is no evidence to direct therapeutic management in patients undergoing microlaryngeal surgeries. Our aim was to compare bleeding complications between microlaryngeal surgeries performed for patients preoperatively taken off and maintained on antiplatelet and/or anticoagulation therapy. ⋯ 4.

To better understand the causes and outcomes of lawsuits involving otolaryngologists in the past decade by analyzing malpractice litigation trends to prevent future litigation and improve physician education. ⋯ Our study reveals that in the past decade, in significant malpractice litigations, overall outcomes favored otolaryngologists. The average awards was significantly higher when cases involved malignancy. Our analysis reveals the importance of meticulous surgical techniques and thorough preoperative evaluations. Last, when otolaryngologists are defendants in litigation, our review reiterates the value of the otolaryngologist as the defense's expert witnesses.

Improved wound healing of postischemic cutaneous flaps with the use of bone marrow-derived stem cells.
To determine if the intravascular delivery of mesenchymal stem cells improves wound healing and blood perfusion to postischemic cutaneous flap tissues. ⋯ This study demonstrates that the intravascular delivery of BMSCs increases wound healing and promotes flap survival following ischemia-reperfusion injury of cutaneous tissue flaps.

Effectiveness of subcutaneous immunotherapy for allergic rhinoconjunctivitis and asthma: a systematic review.
To systematically review the effectiveness and safety of subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) for treatment of allergic rhinoconjunctivitis and asthma, using formulations currently approved in the United States. ⋯ Generally moderate to strong evidence supports the effectiveness of SCIT for treatment of allergic rhinitis and asthma, particularly with single-allergen immunotherapy regimens. Adverse reactions to SCIT are common, but no deaths were reported in the included studies.

Drug-induced sleep endoscopy in sleep-disordered breathing: report on 1,249 cases.
To describe upper airway (UA) collapse patterns during drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) in a large cohort of patients with sleep-disordered breathing (SDB) and to assess associations with anthropometric and polysomnographic parameters. ⋯ The current study provides an overview of UA collapse patterns in a large cohort of SDB patients who underwent DISE. The associations found in this study may indicate that UA collapse patterns observed during DISE cannot be fully explained by selected baseline polysomnographic and anthropometric characteristics.
