Waist-to-calf circumstance ratio is an independent predictor of hepatic steatosis and fibrosis in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Although a combination of central obesity and decreased skeletal muscle mass has been associated with various cardiometabolic disorders, its influence on the presence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in type 2 diabetes (T2D) is unclear. We investigated whether waist-to-calf circumference ratio (WCR) predicts NAFLD or hepatic fibrosis in T2D. ⋯ Higher WCR is associated with increased risk of NAFLD and hepatic fibrosis independent of insulin resistance. This suggests that WCR may be a useful index to predict high risk of hepatic steatosis in T2D.

Meta AnalysisFecal immunochemical test for predicting mucosal healing in ulcerative colitis patients: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Fecal immunochemical test (FIT) is a promising marker for assessment of inflammatory bowel disease activity. However, the utility of FIT for predicting mucosal healing (MH) of ulcerative colitis (UC) patients has yet to be clearly demonstrated. The objective of our study was to perform a diagnostic test accuracy test meta-analysis evaluating the diagnostic accuracy of FIT in predicting MH of UC patients. ⋯ Our meta-analysis has found that FIT is a simple, reliable non-invasive marker for predicting MH in UC patients.

Linaclotide in irritable bowel syndrome with constipation: A Phase 3 randomized trial in China and other regions.
Linaclotide is a guanylate cyclase-C agonist approved in multiple countries to treat irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C). China has unmet need for well-tolerated therapy that is effective in treating both bowel and abdominal symptoms of IBS-C. This trial evaluated linaclotide's efficacy and safety in IBS-C patients in China and other regions. ⋯ Once-daily 290-μg linaclotide improved bowel habits, abdominal symptoms, and global measures in a predominantly Chinese IBS-C population.

Utility of magnetic resonance elastography for predicting ascites in patients with chronic liver disease.
This study aimed to evaluate the utility of magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) as a non-invasive method for predicting ascites in patients with chronic liver disease (CLD). ⋯ Compared with serum fibrosis markers, MRE has higher diagnostic performance in predicting the presence of ascites. MRE-based LS has the potential to predict the presence of ascites in CLD patients.

Estrogen receptor β selective agonist ameliorates liver cirrhosis in rats by inhibiting the activation and proliferation of hepatic stellate cells.
The aim of this study is to explore the roles of estrogen receptor (ER) subtypes and corresponding agonists/antagonists on the development of cirrhosis and activation and proliferation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs). ⋯ The antifibrogenic effects of estrogen were mediated by ERβ but not ERα or GPER. The ERβ selective agonist exerted a fibrosuppressive effect by inhibiting the activation and proliferation of HSCs, but did not induce uterine hyperplasia.
