The TREVIDA study aimed to evaluate vortioxetine for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) in Taiwanese adults. ⋯ Vortioxetine reduced depression severity and improved cognitive function, work productivity, and functioning in Taiwanese patients with MDD in the real-world setting. Vortioxetine was well-tolerated in this Taiwanese population.

Coughing is a common symptom and responsible for a large number of healthcare visits. This study aimed to characterize healthcare resource use and associated financial costs in people with acute or chronic cough. ⋯ Patients with cough represented a substantial financial burden to the NHS. It was difficult to discern the specific portion of treatment associated with cough itself. However, people with chronic cough were associated with substantially increased healthcare use and costs than were those with acute cough.

Diagnosis, prevention, management and treatment of acute and chronic medical conditions have improved with technological advancements in terms of scalability, efficacy, access, and personalized approach. Digital therapeutic applications (DTx) (Blue Star, Diabeo System, Livongo Diabetes Program, Tidepool etc.,) use web-based applications/cloud platforms to provide evidence-based, personalized, rapid point of care management of chronic, behavior-modifiable conditions, including diabetes mellitus (DM). ⋯ Addressing concerns along DTx data vulnerability, comparative efficacy with conventional treatments, ability to accommodate diverse population needs, and resolving ambiguous regulatory policies and reimbursement guidelines are critical for increasing access to DTx, and overcoming availability, accessibility, and affordability issues in the existing resource limited healthcare environment. In this commentary the authors explore the potential, prospects, and challenges of DTx in the management of Diabetes Mellitus.

The current guideline-based management of hypothyroidism recommends monotherapy with levothyroxine (LT4), titrated to maintain the level of thyrotropin within a euthyroid reference range. This has been successful for most people with hypothyroidism, but a substantial minority still report symptoms of hypothyroidism unexplained by a comorbid medical condition. LT4 is essentially a prodrug for triiodothyronine (T3), the thyroid hormone that acts on target tissues in the brain and the periphery. ⋯ Accordingly, these RCTs may have failed to demonstrate benefits of combination therapy in individual hypothyroid phenotypes. The pharmacokinetics of LT4 and T3 also differ, which is a barrier to their co-administration. Future clinical trials using LT4 + T3 tablets better suited for combination therapy will resolve the outstanding research questions relating to the place of LT4 + T3 combination therapy in the management of hypothyroidism.
