Achieving and maintaining glycemic control is important for people with type 2 diabetes (T2D), to reduce disease-related complications and mortality; however, about half of US patients fail to meet glycemic targets. iGlarLixi, a titratable fixed-ratio combination of insulin glargine 100 U/mL (iGlar) and lixisenatide for once-daily administration, was recently approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for use in adults with T2D inadequately controlled on basal insulin (<60 U daily) or lixisenatide. iGlar and lixisenatide have complementary mechanisms of action, primarily targeting fasting plasma glucose and postprandial plasma glucose, respectively. In the US, iGlarLixi is available in a 3:1 ratio of iGlar and lixisenatide, respectively, across the dosage range of 15-60 U of iGlar and 5-20 µg of lixisenatide. ⋯ iGlarLixi provides a new approach to therapy intensification in patients with T2D. iGlarLixi showed greater A1C efficacy compared with either iGlar or lixisenatide, mitigating iGlar-associated weight gain, without increasing hypoglycemia risk, and reducing the gastrointestinal side-effects seen with lixisenatide.

To estimate real-world treatment patterns, safety, and relapse outcomes of subcutaneous (sc) interferon (IFN) β-1a (Rebif) vs dimethyl fumarate (DMF; Tecfidera), to treat relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS). ⋯ sc IFN β-1a-treated patients had comparable persistence and relapse outcomes, and better safety outcomes vs DMF-treated patients across 2 years.

To describe the incidence of difficult and failed intubations in obstetric patients during a 6 year period monitored by a quality assurance program together with American Society of Anesthesiologists Physical Status (ASA PS) scores, and obesity (body mass index >30 kg/m2). ⋯ Despite an increase in ASA PS score and obesity, there was no increase in the incidence of difficult intubation in obstetric patients. Limitations of the study include its retrospective design, and the small number of difficult intubation cases identified.

The aim of the present study was to review 6 year experience on the surgical outcomes of laparoscopic endometriosis surgery. ⋯ Surgical treatment of endometriosis seems to be an effective treatment. DIE can be present in the absence of endometrioma. The rate of left endometrioma is higher due to the pressure effect of the sigmoid colon. Nonetheless, if an expert surgeon performs this procedure, not only the rate of post-operative complications, but also the possibility of recurrence would decrease.

Healthcare costs for allergic rhinitis patients on allergy immunotherapy: a retrospective observational study.
Subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) for allergic rhinitis (AR) has been shown to control symptoms for up to several years following treatment discontinuation, but the effect of SCIT on healthcare costs for commercially insured patients is unknown. The objective of this study was to compare healthcare costs and resource utilization for patients with AR who received SCIT compared with those who discontinued SCIT shortly after initiation. ⋯ Continued SCIT use is associated with decreased emergency room visits and inpatient stays, decreased oral corticosteroid use, and lower respiratory-related costs, compared with early discontinuation.
