Proton pump inhibitors for preventing non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug induced gastrointestinal toxicity: a systematic review.
Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are recommended for preventing gastrointestinal lesions induced by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). We performed this study: (1) to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of PPIs, (2) to explore the association between effectiveness and potential influential factors, and (3) to investigate the comparative effect of different PPIs. ⋯ PPIs are effective and safe in preventing peptic ulcers and complications in a wide spectrum of patients requiring NSAID therapy. There is no major difference in the comparative effectiveness and safety between different PPIs.

The impact of antidepressant treatments on family functioning in adults with major depressive disorder: a post hoc comparison of vortioxetine and agomelatine.
There is limited research on the impact of antidepressant treatment on family functioning. This study examines the impact of vortioxetine and agomelatine on family functioning using the Depression and Family Functioning Scale (DFFS). ⋯ Vortioxetine was significantly superior to agomelatine in terms of family functioning and partner relationships, as well as social functioning, health status, and depression symptoms at weeks 8 and 12. Depressed patients with impaired family functioning showed worse overall functioning, health status, and depression symptoms, suggesting that more attention should be given to family functioning of depressed patients.

Recent studies have suggested shared comorbidities between heart failure and osteoporosis. In addition, patients with osteoporosis are associated with increased risks of developing cardiovascular disease. ⋯ We observed a higher incidence of developing heart failure in Taiwanese adults with osteoporosis, especially in those with chronic comorbidities. There might be linking pathophysiology and mechanisms from osteoporosis to heart failure.

Maintenance of weight loss or stability in subjects with obesity: a retrospective longitudinal analysis of a real-world population.
Characterize patterns of weight change among subjects with obesity. ⋯ Weight cycling and regain were commonly observed. Subjects losing the most weight during the initial period were more likely to continue losing weight.

Evaluating the costs of glycemic response with canagliflozin versus dapagliflozin and empagliflozin as add-on to metformin in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the United Arab Emirates.
This study evaluates the cost of achieving glycemic control with three sodium glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, canagliflozin, dapagliflozin, and empagliflozin, in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) from the payer perspective in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). ⋯ Canagliflozin may provide a greater glycemic response at a lower effective cost than dapagliflozin or empagliflozin for patients with T2DM inadequately controlled with metformin from the payer perspective in the UAE.
