To assess differences in psychological outcomes as well as risk and protective factors for these outcomes among several USA ethnic groups and identify correlates of these psychological outcomes among adults with diabetes in the second Diabetes Attitudes, Wishes and Needs (DAWN2 * ) study. ⋯ Ethnic groups differ in their psychological outcomes. The risk/protective factors for psychological outcomes differ across ethnic groups and different ethnic groups are more/less sensitive to their influence. These findings can aid the development of strategies to overcome the most prominent and influential psychosocial barriers to optimal diabetes care within each ethnic group.

Safety profile of semagacestat, a gamma-secretase inhibitor: IDENTITY trial findings.
Semagacestat, a γ-secretase inhibitor, demonstrated an unfavorable risk-benefit profile in a Phase 3 study of patients with Alzheimer's disease (IDENTITY trials), and clinical development was halted. To assist in future development of γ-secretase inhibitors, we report detailed safety findings from the IDENTITY study, with emphasis on those that might be mechanistically linked to γ-secretase inhibition. ⋯ Many of these safety findings can be attributed to γ-secretase inhibition, and may be valuable to researchers developing γ-secretase inhibitors.

To estimate the prevalence of urinary incontinence (UI), overactive bladder (OAB), and other lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in the Czech Republic, Russia, and Turkey. ⋯ The results of this epidemiologic survey found high rates of LUTS and OAB, but low levels of medical consultation and very low use of medication treatment, despite high levels of improvement when medications were used.

Impact of fatigue on outcome of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor treatment: secondary analysis of STAR*D.
To explore relationships between baseline and changes in fatigue during treatment with outcomes in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) receiving citalopram monotherapy. ⋯ Lower baseline fatigue and remission of fatigue during antidepressant treatment in patients with MDD are associated with higher rates of remission of depressive symptoms and better function and quality of life. Study limitations include use of the STAR*D Level 1 sample (citalopram as only antidepressant), use of a proxy measure of energy/fatigue (item 14 from the QIDS-SR16), and the secondary post-hoc analysis design.

Management of severe chronic pain with tapentadol prolonged release - long-term data from pain specialists.
Clinical trials have documented the efficacy and good tolerability of tapentadol prolonged released (PR) for severe chronic pain. This study investigated routine long-term administration by pain specialists. ⋯ The study lacks a control group; assessment under routine practice conditions, however, reflects daily practice clinical management conditions.
