Efficacy of oral bisphosphonates for preventing hip fracture in disabled patients with neurological diseases: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials among the Japanese population.
Neurological diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), stroke, and Parkinson's disease cause disability and immobilization that increases the risk of hip fracture. The purpose of the present study was to clarify the efficacy of oral bisphosphonates for preventing hip fracture in disabled patients with such neurological diseases. ⋯ A meta-analysis of RCTs suggested that oral bisphosphonate treatment prevents hip fracture in disabled Japanese patients with neurological diseases, including ALS, stroke, and Parkinson's disease. Oral bisphosphonate treatment was well tolerated by such patients.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Clinical Trial
Fixed-dose combination of enteric-coated naproxen and immediate-release esomeprazole has comparable efficacy to celecoxib for knee osteoarthritis: two randomized trials.
To demonstrate that a fixed-dose combination of enteric-coated naproxen 500 mg and immediate-release esomeprazole magnesium 20 mg has comparable efficacy to celecoxib for knee osteoarthritis. ⋯ Naproxen/esomeprazole magnesium has comparable efficacy to celecoxib for the management of pain associated with osteoarthritis of the knee over 12 weeks.

To evaluate the use of a buprenorphine transdermal patch (Transtec*) in routine clinical practice, including dosage, indications, efficacy and tolerability. ⋯ In routine Polish clinical practice, transdermal buprenorphine was effective and generally well-tolerated in patients with chronic moderate to severe cancer pain or chronic severe non-malignant pain insufficiently controlled by non-opioids.

Epidemiological data, efficacy and safety of a paracetamol-tramadol fixed combination in the treatment of moderate-to-severe pain. SALZA: a post-marketing study in general practice.
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of the paracetamol-tramadol combination (PTC) in treating moderate-to-severe pain, in patients aged 65 years and over within general practitioner (GP) practice centers. ⋯ PTC, due to the complementary action of its two analgesics, is effective in treating the different types of pain in a GP's practice setting and is well-tolerated, even in an elderly population. Study limitations include all those inherent to non-interventional and open-label observations.

Multicenter Study Clinical Trial
Clinical outcomes after insulin initiation in patients with type 2 diabetes: 6-month data from the INSTIGATE observational study in five European countries.
To examine insulin regimens and factors that affect glycaemic control at 6 months after initiation of insulin therapy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. ⋯ Differences in insulin regimen were observed between countries, and appeared to reflect the guidelines and treatment regimens used.
