Use of cryoanalgesia as a postoperative pain management for open pectus carinatum repair.
Cryoanalgesia has shown to have safety and efficacy as an adjunct post-operative pain management for Nuss procedure. One retrospective study reported its efficacy for analgesia with the Ravitch procedure, with improved pain scores and decreased length of stay versus thoracic epidural. We describe our initial experience with the use of cryoanalgesia for an open repair of pectus carinatum. ⋯ Cryoanalgesia is a safe and effective pain management strategy for pediatric patients undergoing open pectus carinatum repair.

The role of a pediatric tertiary care center in avoiding collateral damage for children with acute appendicitis during the COVID-19 outbreak.
To evaluate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic-related lockdown on management and outcomes of children with acute appendicitis. ⋯ Despite an increase in the number of children with appendicitis managed at our hospital during the COVID-19-related lockdown, management, and outcome remained similar. Although our pediatric center was strongly affected by this pandemic, maintaining our prior practice strategies for acute appendicitis avoided the occurrence of collateral damage for those children.

Historical ArticleHistory of the Pan African Paediatric Surgery Association (PAPSA).
The Pan African Paediatric Surgery Association (PAPSA) was formed in 1994. The need for an organisation in Africa to voice children's surgery and the trials and tribulations in forming this organisation was covered in this journal 2 years ago (Heinz R, Kyambi J, Lakhoo K. ⋯ This article covers the history of the organisation post inception in 1994 to date. The near disbanding of the organisation due to political unrest and wars in Africa, to its success in the recent decade is highlighted in this manuscript.

ReviewChallenges to delivering pediatric surgery services in the midst of COVID 19 crisis: experience from a tertiary care hospital of Pakistan.
Covid-19 pandemic has significantly challenged the healthcare delivery across the world. Surgery departments across the country responded to this challenge by halting all non-emergency procedures. ⋯ In this manuscript, we discuss the measures adopted as well as the challenges faced by the pediatric surgery department at Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi (AKUH), Pakistan, which is a private, not-for-profit entity and providing optimum surgical care to the patients. We also underscore the need for global strategies for tackling such crisis.

The role of preoperative instructions in parents' understanding of preoperative fasting for outpatient pediatric urology procedures.
To assess the impact of modifications in preoperative instructions on parental understanding of preoperative fasting guidelines. ⋯ Addition of visual aids in preoperative instructions was associated with improvement in parents' understanding of the rationale behind preoperative fasting instructions. Further studies are needed to determine whether improved understanding is associated with improved adherence.
