Review Meta AnalysisHigher versus lower oxygenation strategies in the general intensive care unit population: A systematic review, meta-analysis and meta-regression of randomized controlled trials.
Oxygen therapy is vital in adult intensive care unit (ICU) patients, but it is indistinct whether higher or lower oxygen targets are favorable. Our aim was to update the findings of randomized controlled trials (RTCs) comparing higher and lower oxygen strategies. ⋯ No difference was found for 90-day mortality, support free days and ICU and hospital LOS. However, a lower incidence of SAEs was found for lower oxygenation. These findings may have clinical implications for practice guidelines, yet it remains of paramount importance to continue conducting clinical trials, comparing groups with a clinically relevant contrast and focusing on the impact of important side effects.

Meta AnalysisValue of digital PCR in the early diagnosis of sepsis: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
We systematically assessed whether a digital polymerase chain reaction (PCR) could detect pathogenic microorganisms in patients with sepsis early and accurately. ⋯ Digital PCR can detect pathogenic microorganisms in patients with sepsis earlier than blood culture. Therefore, digital PCR can be used as a potential strategy for the detection of pathogenic microorganisms in patients with sepsis.

Review Meta AnalysisIncreased long-term mortality following new-onset atrial fibrillation in the intensive care unit: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the long-term outcomes of patients who develop new-onset atrial fibrillation (NOAF) during an intensive care unit (ICU) admission. ⋯ In patients who develop NOAF in an ICU, both 90-day and 1-year mortality are increased in comparison to those who do not develop NOAF. Current evidence suggests an increased risk of thromboembolic events after hospital discharge in patients who develop NOAF in an ICU.

Randomized Controlled TrialApplying bio-impedance vector analysis (BIVA) to adjust ultrafiltration rate in critically ill patients on continuous renal replacement therapy: A randomized controlled trial.
Bioimpedance vector analysis (BIVA) has been suggested as a valuable tool in assessing volume status in critically ill patients. However, its effectiveness in guiding fluid removal by continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) has not been evaluated. ⋯ BIVA guided UF prescription may be associated with a lower rate of fluid overload. Larger studies are required to evaluate its impact on patients' outcomes.
