Randomized Controlled TrialEffects of designated leadership and team-size on cardiopulmonary resuscitation: The Basel-Washington SIMulation (BaWaSim) trial.
During cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), it remains unclear whether designating an individual person as team leader compared with emergent leadership results in better team performance. Also, the effect of CPR team size on team performance remains understudied. ⋯ Within this international US/Swiss trial, leadership designation and larger team size did not improve hands-on time, but emergent leadership teams initiated defibrillation earlier. Improvements in performance may be more likely to be achieved by optimization of emergent leadership than increasing the size of cardiac arrest teams.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyBedside electromagnetic-guided placement of nasoenteral feeding tubes among critically Ill patients: A single-centre randomized controlled trial.
We aimed to compare the effectiveness of EM-guided and endoscopic nasoenteral feeding tube placement among critically ill patients. ⋯ Bedside EM-guided placement is as fast, safe, and successful as endoscopic placement and may be considered the preferred technique in critically ill patients.

Randomized Controlled TrialPopulation pharmacokinetics of intravenous paracetamol in critically ill patients with traumatic brain injury.
High-dose paracetamol (6 g/day) is a low-cost intervention that may prevent pyrexia. The purpose of this study was to describe the pharmacokinetics of high-dose intravenous paracetamol, in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). ⋯ Due to altered pharmacokinetics, patients experiencing severe TBI may require a higher dose of paracetamol to achieve drug exposure that results in preventing pyrexia.

Randomized Controlled TrialEfficacy of early passive tilting in minimizing ICU-acquired weakness: A randomized controlled trial.
To investigate whether passive tilting added to a standardized rehabilitation therapy improved strength at Intensive Care Unit (ICU) discharge. ⋯ Passive tilting added to a standardized rehabilitation therapy did not improve muscle strength at ICU discharge in surgical patients even if a faster recovery with tilting is suggested.

Randomized Controlled TrialA pilot trial of l-carnitine in patients with traumatic brain injury: Effects on biomarkers of injury.
To investigate the effects of l-Carnitine on neuron specific enolase (NSE) as a marker of inflammation in patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI). ⋯ We concluded that despite improvements in neurobehavioral function and the degree of cerebral edema, 7-days of treatment with l-Carnitine failed to reduce serum NSE levels or improve mortality rate at 90days in patients with TBI.
