ReviewManaging the Alpha-1 patient in the ICU: Adapting broad critical care strategies in AATD.
Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (AATD) is a progressive pulmonary disease under-recognized or misdiagnosed by clinicians. Patients with AATD can develop a variety of organ-specific complications and as a result, often require hospitalization and treatment within critical care and ICU settings. ⋯ In addition, we have outlined certain aspects of the care of this patient population that may be of interest to critical care practitioners. With greater disease awareness and earlier diagnosis the onset of symptoms can be delayed, which will ultimately reduce the frequency of deleterious health consequences.

Comparative StudyComparison between logistic regression and machine learning algorithms on survival prediction of traumatic brain injuries.
To compare twenty-two machine learning (ML) models against logistic regression on survival prediction in severe traumatic brain injury (STBI) patients in a single center study. ⋯ The twenty-two ML models selected have capabilities comparable to classical LR model for outcome prediction in STBI patients. Of these, Cubic SVM, Quadratic SVM, Linear SVM performed significantly better than LR.

Optimal vancomycin dosing regimens for critically ill patients with acute kidney injury during continuous renal replacement therapy: A Monte Carlo simulation study.
This study aims to determine the optimal vancomycin dosing in critically ill patients with acute kidney injury receiving continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) using Monte Carlo simulation. ⋯ A higher dose of vancomycin than the current literature-based recommendation was needed in CRRT patients.
