Observational StudyRed blood cell transfusion in acute brain injury subtypes: An observational cohort study.
Optimal red blood cell (RBC) transfusion thresholds in acute brain injury (ABI) are poorly defined. ⋯ In moderately anemic patients with ABI, RBC transfusion was associated with longer hospital and ICU LOS. Prospective investigations are necessary to further assess these relationships.

Postdischarge long-term cardiovascular outcomes of intensive care unit survivors who developed dialysis-requiring acute kidney injury after cardiac surgery.
Dialysis-requiring acute kidney injury (AKI-D) after cardiac surgery is a major cause of in-hospital mortality. However, the long-term outcome has not been previously examined. ⋯ AKI-D following cardiac surgery was associated with worse long-term postdischarge mortality and elevated risks of dialysis dependency and MACE development. The outcomes were consistent even in the patients who recovered from the dialysis.

Prognostic nomogram for acute pancreatitis patients: An analysis of publicly electronic healthcare records in intensive care unit.
The mortality rate of severe acute pancreatitis (AP) is 20-30% even after admission to intensive care unit (ICU). Thus we aimed to develop a laboratory-based nomogram to identify AP patients at high risk for mortality. ⋯ The proposed nomogram gives rise to accurately prognostic prediction for critically AP patients admitted to ICU.

Moral distress is associated with general workplace distress in intensive care unit personnel.
To assess the association between moral distress and general workplace distress in intensive care unit (ICU) personnel. ⋯ Moral distress is associated with general workplace distress in ICU personnel. Interventions that ameliorate either type of distress may also ameliorate the other.

Improving the adoption of optimal venous thromboembolism prophylaxis in critically ill patients: A process evaluation of a complex quality improvement initiative.
This study evaluated a complex initiative to increase evidence-based use of low molecular weight heparin for venous thromboembolism prophylaxis among adult medical-surgical ICU patients. ⋯ The findings of this process evaluation identified implementation strategies that can improve the use of evidence-informed practices, help interpret outcomes in the context of interventions and guide future quality improvement initiatives.
