Multicenter Study Observational StudyEarly glycemia and mortality in critically ill septic patients: Interaction with insulin-treated diabetes.
To investigate the relationship between dysglycemia and hospital mortality in patients with and without a preadmission diagnosis of insulin treated diabetes mellitus (ITDM). ⋯ Septic patients with a pre-existing diagnosis of ITDM show a different relationship between hospital mortality and highest glucose levels and glycemic variability in the first 24 h than those without ITDM. These findings provide a rationale for an ITDM-specific approach to the management of dysglycemia.

Observational StudyCharacteristics, incidence, and outcome of patients admitted to the intensive care unit with myasthenia gravis.
There are limited data on the characteristics, incidence, and mortality of patients with myasthenia gravis (MG) admitted to the ICU. ⋯ In ANZ, the ICU and population incidence of MG has increased over the last decade. However, its mortality rate was low.

Cirrhotic patients admitted to the ICU for medical reasons: Analysis of 5506 patients admitted to 286 ICUs in 8years.
To describe characteristics and prognostic factors of cirrhotic patients admitted to a representative sample of Italian intensive care units (ICUs). ⋯ The outcome of critically ill cirrhotic patients is quite poor, but not to limit their admission to the ICU. When cirrhosis accompanies other acute conditions, the general level of intensive care medicine is more important than the specific liver-oriented expertise in treating these patients.

Bereaved donor families' experiences of organ and tissue donation, and perceived influences on their decision making.
To elicit bereaved families' experiences of organ and tissue donation. A specific objective was to determine families' perceptions of how their experiences influenced donation decision-making. ⋯ The influence of temporality on donation-decision making is worthy of consideration in the planning of future education, policy, practice, and research for improved rates of family consent to donation.

Value of the combination of renal resistance index and central venous pressure in the early prediction of sepsis-induced acute kidney injury.
Early prediction of acute kidney injury (AKI) in septic patients is difficult. This study aimed to assess the values of renal resistive index (RI), central venous pressure (CVP), and their combination in the early prediction of sepsis-induced AKI. ⋯ The combination of RI and CVP was more valuable than either of the two parameters in the early prediction for sepsis-induced AKI.
