Early prediction of norepinephrine dependency and refractory septic shock with a multimodal approach of vascular failure.
The purpose of the study is to improve our ability to detect catecholamine dependency and refractory septic shock. ⋯ The intensity of septic shock-induced vascular hyporesponsiveness to vasopressor is tightly linked to septic shock severity and evolution and may potentially be identified early with simple to obtain parameters such as near-infrared spectroscopy value, SOFA score, or norepinephrine dose.

Observational StudyRisk factors for fluconazole-resistant invasive candidiasis in intensive care unit patients: An analysis from the China Survey of Candidiasis study.
To assess the risk factors for invasive Candida infection (ICI) caused by fluconazole-resistant (Flu-R) Candida species in intensive care unit (ICU) patients. ⋯ As many as 41% of ICI patients were infected with Flu-R Candida, and the main risk factor was longer ICU stay before onset of ICI, implying that caution should be exercised when treating patients who have been long stayed in ICU with fluconazole as the first-line drug before testing isolates for drug sensitivity.

Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio: A novel and simple prognostic marker for infective endocarditis.
Infective endocarditis is a life-threatining infectious disease characterized by high morbidity and mortality. Leukocytes play a main role in infectious diseases. Neutrophils and lymphocytes are subgroup of leukocytes, and they are routinely measured as a part of automated complete blood count test. The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio is an independent predictor of unfavorable clinical outcomes in infectious and cardiovascular diseases.

Safety profile and feasibility of early physical therapy and mobility for critically ill patients in the medical intensive care unit: Beginning experiences in Korea.
To evaluate risk factors for potential safety events during mobility physical therapy sessions in the medical intensive care unit. ⋯ Early mobility physical therapy performed by a newly established group was feasible for critically ill patients in Korea. However, potential safety events need to be monitored carefully for patients with extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support.

The duration of hospitalization before review by the rapid response team: A retrospective cohort study.
The purpose of this study is to compare cases of rapid response team (RRT) review for early deterioration (<48 hours after admission), intermediate deterioration (48 to <168 hours after admission), late deterioration (≥168 hours after admission), and cardiac arrest and to determine the association between duration of hospitalization before RRT review and mortality. ⋯ Late deterioration is frequently encountered by the RRT and, compared with early deterioration, is associated with greater clinical complexity and a worse hospital outcome.
