Randomized Controlled TrialEffects of myofascial release in erector spinae myoelectric activity and lumbar spine kinematics in non-specific chronic low back pain: Randomized controlled trial.
Flexion-relaxation response of the lumbar erector spinae has been previously studied after different interventions such as exercise programs or spinal manipulation, in subjects with chronic low back pain. The objective of the study was to investigate the effects of an isolated myofascial release protocol on erector spinae myoelectric activity and lumbar spine kinematics in chronic low back pain. ⋯ The myofascial release protocol contributed to the normalization of the flexion- relaxation response in individuals who did not show myoelectric silence before the intervention, and also showed a significant reduction in pain and disability compared with the sham group.

Normative parameters and anthropometric variability of lumbar muscle stiffness using ultrasound shear-wave elastography.
Quantifying stiffness of the lumbar spine musculature using shear-wave elastography (SWE) maybe beneficial in the diagnosis and treatment of non-specific low back pain (LBP). The primary purpose of this study was to establish normative parameter and variance estimates of lumbar spine muscle stiffness at rest and during submaximal contraction levels using SWE in healthy individuals. A second aim was to determine the relationship between lumbar spine muscle stiffness and a variety of demographic, anthropometric, and medical history variables. ⋯ Variability in shear modulus of the lumbar musculature may be mediated through a combination of muscle size and contractile state, which is consistent with our findings of higher stiffness in the more postural lumbar multifidi muscles, during contraction, and in larger and more active individuals. These findings should inform and be accounted for in future comparative clinical studies.

Menstrual cycle variation and gender difference in muscle stiffness of triceps surae.
We aimed to investigate the menstrual cycle variation and the gender difference of the triceps surae muscle stiffness and passive stiffness of the ankle joint. ⋯ Our findings suggest that passive stiffness and muscle stiffness did not differ in the menstrual cycle. In addition, the measured part of the soleus was more tensioned in women than in men.

Suture-button fixation and anterior inferior tibiofibular ligament augmentation with suture-tape for syndesmosis injury: A biomechanical cadaveric study.
Suture-button (SB) fixation has been widely performed for syndesmosis injuries, but it has been reported unstable in some biomechanical studies. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the stability of the syndesmosis using SB fixation with anterior inferior tibiofibular ligament augmentation using suture-tape (ST). ⋯ SB fixation alone did not provide stability of the syndesmosis, and screw fixation became too rigid compared with the intact model. Using ST augmentation achieved dynamic stability similar to the intact model for syndesmotic injuries.

The influence of balance, physical disability, strength, mechanosensitivity and spinal mobility on physical activity at home, work and leisure time in women with fibromyalgia.
Fibromyalgia syndrome is a chronic disease consisting of widespread pain, fatigue, sleep disturbances, and cognitive impairments, among other symptoms, which affect daily physical activity. However, the influence of functional status on physical activity involved in leisure, household and work activities has not been researched previously. The main objective was to evaluate balance, strength, spinal mobility, mechanosensitivity and function levels as related factors of physical activity in female with fibromyalgia. ⋯ A higher time spent in leisure, household and work activities was related to higher age, spinal range of motion and lower functional mobility in women with Fibromyalgia. Rehabilitation intervention programs should promote physical activity at home, work and leisure time.
