[Transbronchial needle aspiration in bronchogenic carcinoma with visible lesions: diagnostic yield and cost].
Transbronchial needle aspiration (TBNA) is a bronchoscopic technique whose usefulness in diagnosing endobronchial lesions has not yet been clearly established. ⋯ The diagnostic yield of TBNA is high for endoscopically visible bronchial anomalies suggesting neoplasm, particularly when the lesion is due to extrinsic compression, submucosal infiltration, or exophytic mass with necrosis.

Multicenter Study Comparative Study[Diagnostic value of quantitative cultures of endotracheal aspirate in ventilator-associated pneumonia: a multicenter study].
To study the validity of quantitative cultures of tracheal aspirate (TA) in comparison with the plugged telescoping catheter (PTC) for the diagnosis of mechanical ventilator-associated pneumonia. ⋯ No differences in the specificities of PTC and TA were found when a TA cutoff of > or = 106 cfu/ml was used. Moreover, at a cutoff of > or = 105 the sensitivity of TA was not statistically different from that of PTC. Quantitative cultures of TA can be considered acceptable for the diagnosis of ventilator-associated pneumonia.

[Analysis of withdrawal from noninvasive mechanical ventilation in patients with obesity-hypoventilation syndrome. Medium term results].
To evaluate the possibility of cessation of noninvasive mechanical ventilation or noninvasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV) treatment in patients with obesity-hypoventilation syndrome (OHS). ⋯ The majority of the OHS patients who receive prolonged treatment with NPPV continue to be stable 3 months after liberation from ventilatory support. A high percentage of these patients can be seen to have OSAS once the hypercapnia situation is corrected.

[Profile of smokers who seek treatment at a smoking cessation clinic].
The variety of smoking cessation therapies that have proven effective ranges from simple counseling to intensive interventions. The objective of our study was to identify the characteristics of smokers who currently seek treatment at a smoking cessation clinic. ⋯ At present, the smokers who attend a smoking cessation clinic are young, severely-dependent adults in the initial stage of preparing to quit. The prevalence of symptoms in this population is low. The profile of the population seeking specialized smoking cessation treatment is expected to change in the future as those with smoking-related diseases and other specific populations of smokers become included.
