Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial
Patient outcomes with positive pressure versus spontaneous ventilation in non-paralysed adults with the laryngeal mask.
To compare patient outcomes for positive pressure ventilation (PPV) and spontaneous ventilation (SV) in non-paralysed patients with the LMA using either isoflurane or sevoflurane anaesthesia. ⋯ Patient outcome is similar for SV and PPV in non-paralysed adult patients with the LMA. Isoflurane and sevoflurane at 0.75 MAC provide suitable conditions for maintenance and emergence, but emergence is more rapid with sevoflurane.

Comparative Study
Evaluation of a new semi-continuous cardiac output system in the intensive care unit.
A new semi-continuous thermodilution cardiac output (CCO) system has been developed recently (Opti-Q and Q-vue Abbott critical care system). The aim of this study was to compare the accuracy and reproducibility of this new device with conventional ice-bolus thermodilution cardiac output (BCO). ⋯ Compared with BCO, this new device was accurate but cannot be considered as interchangeable regarding the limits of agreement. Reproducibility of CCO was superior to BCO.

To assess a new technique for intubation via the laryngeal mask airway (LMA) in which a lighted stylet is used to optimise the position of the LMA before intubation. ⋯ The lighted stylet is useful in facilitating intubation via the LMA in anaesthetised adult patients when used as a guide to optimal LMA position.
