Multicenter Study
Donation after circulatory determination of death in western Canada: a multicentre study of donor characteristics and critical care practices.
Donation after circulatory determination of death (DCD) has been performed in Canada since 2006. Numerous aspects of donor management remain controversial. ⋯ There is significant variability in critical care DCD practices in western Canada, but this has not resulted in significant differences in recipient or graft survival. Further research is required to guide optimal management of potential DCD donors.

Improved patient-provider relationships can positively influence patient outcomes. Sexual and gender minorities (SGM) represent a wide variety of marginalized populations. There is an absence of studies examining the inclusion of SGM-related health education within postgraduate training in anesthesia. This study's objective was to perform an environmental scan of the educational content of North American obstetric anesthesia fellowship programs. ⋯ Our results suggest that, although curriculum leaders appreciate that SGM patients are encountered within the practice of obstetric anesthesia, most fellowship programs do not explicitly include SGM curricular content. Nevertheless, there appears to be interest in developing SGM curricular content for obstetric anesthesia fellowship training. Future steps should include perspectives of trainees and patients to inform curricular content.

Upper airway injury and sympathetic activation may be related to the forces applied during laryngoscopy. We compared the applied forces during laryngoscopy using direct and indirect visualization of a standardized mannequin glottis. ⋯ In this mannequin study, lower forces applied during indirect vs direct laryngoscopy may reflect an advantage of video laryngoscopy, but additional studies using patients are required to confirm the clinical implications of these findings.
